Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spiritual Compass?

Spiritual Compass is a free educational resource exploring the world's great wisdom traditions — Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Taoism, Judaism, Norse mythology, Celtic Druidism, ancient Egyptian spirituality, Native American traditions, Greek philosophy, and more.

It is not affiliated with any church, religious organisation, or spiritual movement. It is an independent site for anyone who is curious about the inner life.

Do you favour one tradition over others?

No. Every tradition on this site is presented with equal seriousness and respect. We do not promote any path as superior, and we do not ask you to believe anything. The assessment tool recommends traditions based on your own stated values — not ours.

Is the site free to use?

Yes, entirely. There are no subscriptions, paywalls, or accounts required. The site is supported by Google AdSense advertising and Amazon affiliate links on the Books page — neither affects the content or recommendations in any way.

How does the spiritual assessment work?

The 15-question assessment asks about how you seek insight, your view of the divine, your relationship with nature, ritual, community, sacred texts, and more. Your answers are scored across eight traditions — Buddhism, Hinduism, Christian Mysticism, Sufism, Greek Philosophy, Celtic Druidism, Kabbalah, and Indigenous Wisdom — and the results show which traditions align most closely with your responses. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere; it runs entirely in your browser.

How do the guided meditations work?

The meditation page offers six guided practices — Mindfulness, Loving-Kindness, Contemplative, Mantra, Breathing, and Evening Reflection. Each one opens an interactive timer with step-by-step guidance that progresses automatically. No app or account needed — just click "Start Practice."

Where do the tradition pages get their information?

Each tradition page is researched from primary texts, scholarly sources, and established reference works. We cite specific scriptures and historical contexts where relevant. If you notice something that is inaccurate or misrepresents a tradition, please email us — we correct errors promptly.

Are the book recommendations genuine?

Yes. The books on the Books page are titles we would genuinely recommend to anyone exploring the relevant tradition. They are Amazon affiliate links — we earn a small commission if you purchase through them, at no extra cost to you.

Can I suggest a tradition or topic you haven't covered?

Absolutely — email us at [email protected]. We are actively expanding the site and give serious consideration to every suggestion.

How do you handle indigenous traditions?

With particular care. Indigenous spiritual traditions are living, not historical — many practices remain sacred and private. We present only what is publicly shared by indigenous communities themselves, and we encourage everyone approaching this material to do so with humility and awareness of the history of appropriation these traditions have endured.
